Spider Veins - Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatments
Spider veins are the smaller and more superficial type of varicose veins, but they can be just as devastating to your appearance.
The medical term for spider veins is telangiactasias. They are extremely common on the lower extremities and face, although they could appear anywhere on the body.
While spider veins are certainly a cosmetic concern, they can also cause significant symptoms including pain, itching and bleeding. Spider veins generally appear as red to purple, tiny veins occurring either singularly or in clusters.
Diagnosis
Although Dr. Goldstein can diagnose spider veins on visual inspection, it is important to determine if the spider veins are indicative of a larger problem below the surface. In addition to history and physical exam, we may deem it necessary to perform a Doppler ultrasound scan of the lower extremity to determine the entire scope of venous disease. Based these findings we can confidently moved towards the most appropriate and effective therapy.
Treatments
There are three basic categories of treatment of spider veins;
liquid sclerotherapy injections,
Laser/Intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment and radiofrequency therapy. With Dr. Goldstein's 20+ years of experience you can be confident that he will choose the most appropriate treatment for you. Often he may use a combination of therapies.
