If your treatment is deemed medically necessary and not cosmetic, insurance documentation will be filed on your behalf.
As a benefit to our medical vein patients we are now offering insurance coverage as “in network” providers for United Health Care, Cigna, GHP /Coventry, Aetna, SSM Healthcare, Medicare and others.
Coverage for varicose vein treatment varies depending on your insurance provider and your specific policy. In general, most insurance providers separate vein treatments into two categories, medically necessary procedures and cosmetic procedures.
Treatments for small, non-symptomatic spider veins are considered cosmetic procedures and are usually not covered by insurance. Larger veins that are symptomatic (pain, aching, burning, itching and/or swelling along with additional criteria set by your insurance) are usually considered medically necessary and are covered by your insurance
Surgical techniques usually covered by most insurance companies include ligation (tying off a vein), stripping (pulling out a long segment of vein with a special instrument), ambulatory phlebectomy (removal of a vein through tiny incisions), endoluminal radiofrequency ablation (e.g., VNUS® Closure™ System) and endoluminal laser ablation (e.g., EVLT [endovenous laser therapy] procedure kit).
It is always best to call your insurance company to find out the details of your policy.
