Microincisional Phlebectomy - (ambulatory phlebectomy)

Microincisional phlebectomy is an office-based procedure used to remove superficial lumpy veins. At our office we use local anesthesia and micro punctures combined with special techniques to remove segments of ropey veins. This very safe procedure results in fast healing and excellent cosmetic outcomes. Microincisional phlebectomy is often combined with endovenous laser ablation as a single stage procedure.

Skin incisions or needle punctures as small as 1 mm are used to extract veins with a phlebectomy hook. A section of the vein is hooked and then removed through the incision. With this procedure, a compression bandage is worn for 24 hours after the proceder followed by 10 days of graduated compression medical stockings. This minimizes swelling and discomfort and allows for proper healing. Patients can return to normal activity within 24 hours. Most major insurance companies consider this a medically necessary treatment.
