Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Spider Vein Treatments
Laser Vein Treatments:
Laser treatment is a safe and effective way to treat superficial veins on the face. At Midwest Vein Care, we consider sclerotherapy the gold standard for treating leg veins, however laser can be used on these vessels as an adjunctive treatment or when sclerotherapy is contraindicated.
Laser uses a one wavelength focused beam of light targeting the pigment in the venous blood. The absorption of the laser light causes heating of the small vein, sealing it closed whereby the body then absorbs the scar tissue. Because the light hits just the target area the surrounding skin is not damaged. Over a period of several weeks the treated veins gradually disappear.
All individuals are evaluated prior to laser therapy and is best used for spider veins that do not cause symptoms and are of a cosmetic concern only. For those who have symptoms, further investigation is done to ensure that they do not have varicose veins. Laser therapy is most effective for the very small spider veins and not used to treat large varicose veins.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment for unwanted spider veins of the legs and face is another effective, safe, and reliable procedure.
IPL is very similar to laser treatment, except that instead of a one wavelength light it uses multi wavelength or broadband light. During this technique of treating spider veins intense, pulsed light emitted from a flash-lamp is absorbed in the target veins causing them to seal close and turn to scar tissue. At this point the body will absorb the scar tissue for clearance of the veins. The IPL is used more for very tiny spider veins, red or blushed skin. This treatment when used for Rosacea and sun damage is called Photo Facial.
Often times at Midwest Vein Care we combine light based treatments with sclerotherapy . Our experience shows that two to five treatments are generally needed and timed about 4-6 weeks apart.
