Foam Sclerotherapy Varicose Vein Treatments Foam Sclerotherapy is an injection treatment for varicose veins. During the treatment, Dr. Goldstein injects the treatment solution as a foam rather than a liquid. The foam makes better contact with the inside of the vein walls and does not interact with the blood, allowing it to stay in contact with the vein walls for a loger period of time. The foam irritates the vein, resulting in the vein closing and turning to scar tissue. Your body's natural system dissolves the vein, which then disappears.
Foam sclerotherapy
may be more useful in larger, longer, or bulging veins than liquid sclerotherapy. Foam sclerotherapy has made the non-surgical treatment of varicose veins more effective. Often times foam sclerotherapy is administered using a trans-illumination vein light and or ultrasound for more exact placement of the foam. This non-invasive procedure has an excellent safety record.
Foam sclerotherapy is most effective when done in a small series of treatments. Each treatment should be done in 6 week intervals.
